Yuvajana Sakhyam

The Mar Thoma Yuvajana Sakhyam is the official youth ministry of the global Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church, serving as a dynamic platform for the spiritual development and fellowship of young adults. Established in 1933 by a resolution of the Sabha Prathinidhi Mandalam (the church parliament), the organization is built on a fourfold motto: "Worship, Study, Witness, and Service." Catering primarily to young men and women ages 16 to 35, the central body aims to equip the next generation with a deep understanding of biblical principles, church history, and strong moral leadership. By mobilizing youth worldwide, the Sakhyam ensures that the church's mission remains vibrant, forward-looking, and responsive to contemporary challenges.

In Canada, local chapters such as the Canadian Mar Thoma Church (CMTC) Yuvajana Sakhyam operate under the Diocese of North America and Europe to adapt this global mandate to young adults living in the diaspora. While holding fast to the theological and cultural roots established in Kerala, these groups tailor their initiatives to address the unique social, academic, and professional challenges faced by youth navigating life in North America. By serving as a vital cultural and spiritual bridge, the Canadian chapters help Indo-Canadian youth integrate their rich Eastern Reformed heritage into their modern, everyday lives, fostering a highly supportive community for peer fellowship, mentorship, and leadership development.

The Yuvajana Sakhyam consistently acts as an active, energetic force within the local parish, driving a diverse calendar of spiritual and community events. Regular activities typically include youth-led cottage prayers, focused Bible studies, and open forums for contemporary discussions on faith, career, and mental health. Beyond these routines, the Sakhyam organizes major annual events such as regional and diocesan youth conferences, sports tournaments, talent competitions (Kalamela), and the dedicated Yuvajana Sakhyam Sunday, during which the youth assist in and lead the parish worship service. Through organized volunteer work and charitable initiatives—ranging from local community outreach and food drives to supporting educational and welfare projects in India—the Sakhyam actively translates its core tenet of "Service" into tangible, everyday action.
